Health Benefits of Oolong Tea

Oolong is a semi-oxidized tea that is famous in Taiwan. As a tea that is in between green and black teas, oolong has a very distinct flavor. Some oolongs are light and aromatic like a green tea, while other have a full-bodied flavor similar to that of a black tea.

Oolong also has the health benefits of both green and black teas, which are:

Helps with preventing diabetes. Consuming oolong on a daily basis will improve blood sugar control, due to the high levels of antioxidants contained within the tea.

Helps with heart health. Drinking oolong regularly will also help with hypertension, cholesterol, and high blood pressure. Oolong will also improve your heart’s general health. Some may be concerned with the presence of caffeine in oolong teas, but since oolong contains much less caffeine than a cup of coffee, its negative effects on the heart is relatively low.

Helps with weight loss. Oolong tea also increases your metabolic rate if consumed frequently on a daily basis.

Helps prevent bone loss. A study has shown that older women who drink oolong tea regularly has decreased bone loss.

Helps prevent cancer. Drinking oolong could also lower your risk of oral cancer, and will give you better breath.

There has never been a better time to get into the habit of drinking oolong tea. In fact, it is our policy that every staff member drink around twenty cups of oolong per day. If you are interested in learning more about oolong tea, please stop by our tea shop in West Village!
